Current Challenge

Research Goal

The primary objective of this project is to engineer a photosynthetic, autotrophic biocementation process using unicellular cyanobacteria capable of microbial biocementation. The process-structure-properties of soil cemented via autotrophic biomineralization will be investigated using a combination of adaptive microbial evolution and materials characterization.
